چکیده

The peculiar anatomical features of the common peroneal nerve and its nutrient vessels render it particularly susceptible to injuries near the lateral aspect of the knee joint (Sunderland, 1968). Numerous aetiopathologic factors have been enumerated as the possible causes of injuries to this nerve at this site such as; posterior-dislocation of the proximal tibio-fibular joint (Lyle, 1925); fracture of the neck of fibula (Perrin and Libry, 1926); forcible extention of a knee that has been ankylosed in flexion (Woltman, 1930); pressure caused by (i) an improperly

Anterolateral tibial plateau osteotomy as a new approach for the treatment of posterolateral tibial plateau fracture

RATIONALE It is challenging to visualize and reduce a posterolateral tibial plateau fracture through an anterolateral approach as the tibial plateau fragments are often covered by the fibular head and ligamentous structures. PATIENT CONCERNS In this case report, we describe a patient with a depression fracture of the posterolateral quadrant combined with a split fracture of the posteromedial ...

Newly designed anterolateral and posterolateral locking anatomic plates for lateral tibial plateau fractures: a finite element study

BACKGROUND Lateral column tibial plateau fracture fixation with a locking screw plate has higher mechanical stability than other fixation methods. The objectives of the present study were to introduce two newly designed locking anatomic plates for lateral tibial plateau fracture and to demonstrate their characteristics of the fixation complexes under the axial loads. METHODS Three different 3...

Sural nerve with no contribution from tibial nerve – a rare case

Introduction Sural nerve (SN) is a sensory nerve which supplies the skin of the posterolateral aspect of the distal one third of the leg, lateral malleolus, along the lateral side of the foot and little toe. The lateral sural cutaneous nerve (LSCN) arises from the common peroneal nerve (also called common fibular nerve or CFN), supplies the skin over the upper part of the lateral and posterolat...

Transient Common Peroneal and Tibial Nerve Palsy Following Knee Arthroscopy for the Treatment of Discoid Lateral Meniscus

The number of knee arthroscopies has increased rapidly since the 1980s and are among the most common orthopedic procedures today. It is generally considered a minimally invasive surgery with relatively low morbidity, but it is not without risk of complications. We report the case of a 14-year-old boy who developed a lesion of common peroneal nerve and tibial nerve after knee arthroscopy for a t...

Common Peroneal Nerve Palsy Secondary to a Proximal Tibiofibular Joint “Ganglion Cyst”—A Case Report and Review of Literature

Although ganglion cysts occur frequently, their presence in the lower extremities is rare and they seldom cause peripheral nerve compression. There are enumerable case reports of intraneural ganglion involvement with the common peroneal nerve and its branches, the sural nerve, and the posterior tibial nerve but extraneural ganglion sciatic and common peroneal nerve palsy cases are quite rare. O...
